Bible Owned by Elvis Presley, Featuring His Handwritten Thoughts — Goes on Display

The King of Rock and Roll is making headlines once again, but this time it’s not for his music. A personal Bible once owned by Elvis Presley, complete with his handwritten notes, has gone on display at Needham Market Evangelical Church in Suffolk, England. The exhibition, part of the church’s centenary celebration, runs until Friday and features rare and historically significant Bibles from across the centuries.

The star attraction is Presley’s Bible, loaned by the Museum of the Book in London. Given to him as a Christmas gift in 1957 by his uncle and aunt, the Bible offers a deeply personal glimpse into the faith of one of music’s most iconic figures. Authenticity has been confirmed by his family, making the exhibit not only a cultural treasure but also a spiritual one.

What makes this display extraordinary are Presley’s handwritten reflections scattered throughout its pages. Under Psalm 11, he penned, “In the Lord I have placed my trust and he will guide me.” Elsewhere, his notes reveal prayers such as, “Lord send me light to guide me,” and the humbling confession, “Deliver me for I am nothing without you.” These words, written by the man who electrified global audiences with his voice and charisma, point to an inner life rooted in God.

Pastor Gary Stevens, who organized the exhibition, described the Bible as a powerful witness to Presley’s Christian upbringing in Mississippi. “He was raised in a devout Christian household, and these notes reflect a personal trust in God that went beyond his public persona,” Stevens said. For fans and believers alike, the display offers a rare opportunity to see a side of Presley often overshadowed by his fame.
The exhibition is not limited to Presley’s Bible. Visitors can also view a rare 16th-century Bible connected to William Tyndale, the English scholar who translated the Scriptures into English against King Henry VIII’s laws. Tyndale was executed for his efforts, praying with his final breath that God would “open the King of England’s eyes.” Remarkably, just three years later, Henry ordered that every church have a Bible — chained to the pulpit so it could not be stolen. One of these chained Bibles is included in the Suffolk exhibition, underscoring the long and often perilous history of bringing God’s Word to the people.

Together, the displays create a bridge between past and present. From the sacrifice of Tyndale to the faith of Presley, the collection highlights how Scripture continues to shape lives across centuries and cultures. For Needham Market Evangelical Church, marking its 100th year, the exhibition is both a celebration of heritage and a testimony to the enduring power of the Bible.
Elvis Presley passed away in 1977, but the presence of his personal Bible — with words of trust, humility, and dependence on God — serves as a lasting reminder that even the brightest stars turned to faith for light and guidance.
Visitors can view the exhibition daily from 14:00 to 17:00 BST until its close on Friday.
