Buji Babiera, NYMA’s passionate cycling advocate and the founder of First Bike Ride, has long been at the forefront of promoting cycling as a sustainable mode of transportation. What began as a movement in the streets of the Philippines is now gaining global attention, as Babiera continues to encourage more people to embrace biking as an eco-friendly mode of transportation and contribute to climate action.

Babiera’s journey started with a simple belief: that better roads and safer streets will follow as more people shift to biking. This idea has not only transformed local communities, but also positioned Babiera as a figure in the movement for sustainable living.

Recently, Babiera led an impactful Labor Day ride to honor those who choose to bike to work. The event highlighted the city’s ongoing efforts to protect vulnerable road users, showcasing how Quezon City strives to create safer environments for cyclists.

From these local efforts, Babiera’s influence has expanded far beyond the borders of the Philippines. In recognition of his work, Babiera has been selected as a fellow for The Good Chat Fellowship by Makesense: a six-month program that supports community influencers across the globe who are eager to contribute to their country’s climate goals but need guidance on where to start. For Babiera, this is an opportunity to further his advocacy, bringing the lessons learned from local roads to a global platform.

In addition to this fellowship, Babiera is set to collaborate with Singapore’s Temasek, a global philanthropic organization focused on connecting people, uplifting communities, protecting the planet, and advancing capabilities across Asia and beyond. This partnership will allow him to expand his impact and contribute to projects that resonate with his mission of promoting sustainability.

Looking ahead, Babiera will also join Rappler’s Social Good Panel, where he will share his insights and experiences as a cycling advocate and climate action leader. This platform will give him a chance to engage in meaningful discussions about cycling’s role in achieving environmental goals.

“Cycling is more than just a mode of transportation—it’s a statement of commitment to our planet and future generations,” said Buji Babiera. “Through these new opportunities and collaborations, I hope to inspire more people to take up cycling and to recognize the power of collective action in driving meaningful change.”

Buji Babiera’s commitment is a testament to how local actions can have a global impact. As he continues to champion cycling and climate action, his journey serves as an inspiration for others to join the movement and contribute to a more sustainable world.
