Comedian Jim Breuer on “Demonic” Entertainment, Jesus Saving Marriage

Best known for his comedic work on Saturday Night Live in the 1990s, Jim Breuer recently opened up on his faith-based podcast, Funny How God Works, about how Jesus Christ transformed his marriage and helped him guide others away from the dangers of the entertainment industry.

Breuer recounted a moment of desperation in his marriage. He described driving to a quiet post office in Chester, New Jersey, parking on a side street, and breaking down in prayer. “I have it out with God. I’m sobbing. I said, ‘If you exist, and I know you do, I need you right now. Please help save this marriage,’” he shared. For Breuer, it was a raw and honest plea, acknowledging both his struggles and his faith in God’s power to intervene.
Shortly afterward, Breuer’s wife shared an experience that he described as miraculous. A stranger had approached her in a coffee shop and invited her to pray. After the prayer, she experienced a profound sense of love and began wanting to attend church with Breuer. “Our marriage started to mend,” he said, noting that God’s presence brought healing even amid their challenges.

Breuer’s faith also guided him to protect a young woman he met months later at a camera store. She recognized him from SNL and expressed her intention to pursue fame in Los Angeles. “All I can think about is, if this kid goes to California, these demonic monsters … can see her coming. She can’t go down that path,” Breuer said.
He spent 45 minutes warning her about the moral dangers of the entertainment industry, speaking candidly about greed, exploitation, and the spiritual darkness he had witnessed firsthand. By the end of their conversation, the young woman decided to turn away from the pursuit of fame, ultimately embracing a life grounded in faith. Breuer later learned that the woman who had prayed for his marriage was also the mother of the young woman he helped—a striking reminder of God’s mysterious timing and interconnected work.

Jim has been outspoken about what he calls the “demonic” influence of the entertainment industry. He explained that evil does not always appear violently but often hides in the pursuit of fame, money, and ego, which can erode morality and spiritual grounding. Reflecting on the tragic life of fellow SNL alum Chris Farley, Breuer emphasized that even successful entertainers are vulnerable to destructive pressures. He described Farley’s struggles with addiction and self-worth, noting the lack of accountability and spiritual guidance around him. These experiences ultimately motivated Breuer to step away from Hollywood, recognizing that the industry’s demands had darkened his own life.
Today, Jim Breuer credits Jesus for saving both his marriage and his soul. Through prayer, honesty, and faith, he has been able to guide others toward safety and spiritual growth, using his platform not only to entertain but also to warn against the hidden dangers of a morally compromised world. For Breuer, the lesson is clear: faith in God has the power to heal, protect, and transform lives in ways the world often cannot understand.
