The Philippines now has an estimated 350 community pantries which directly serve local residents who suffer from hunger amidst the pandemic.
It all started when Ana Patricia Non set up a bamboo cart filled with basic groceries and fresh produce at Maginhawa, Quezon City. People with limited resources are now able to bring home fruits, vegetables, canned goods, rice, dried fish, noodles, to their loved ones.
Patricia’s efforts inspired other Filipinos to put up their own community pantries in order to help those who were in dire straits.
Students, employees, at alumni ng De La Salle University now have a community pantry of their own, while the Benedictine Sisters of St. Scholastica’s college were spotted praying during the opening of their community pantry in Manila.
These food aid stations could also be found in Bulacan, Cavite, Laguna, and as far as Maguindanao!
Angel Loscin joined in and made headlines when she announced that she would set up her own community pantry to celebrate her 36th birthday.
Meanwhile, Karla Estrada thanked those in Tacloban who helped organize Daniel Padilla’s community pantry in celebration of his birthday.
TO GOD BE ALL THE GLORY.”
Even fur babies had a community pantry of their own which is located in Makati.
On the other hand, the Department of Environment and Natural Resources distributed free seedlings of fruit bearing trees and vegetables in order to promote urban gardening and planting.
