The opening night of Manila Fashion Week 2025 set the stage for a striking display of bold craftsmanship and vision as local fashion house Viktor debuted its latest collection, Dystopian Blues. Inspired by the cinematic world of Blade Runner 2049, the show transported guests into a future where fashion becomes both armor and statement. Known for its rugged and utilitarian aesthetic, Viktor once again embraced its signature materialsâheavy denim, leather, fur, and woolâinfusing timeless fabrics with a futuristic edge.

Oversized outerwear dominated the runway, paired with sharply structured suits that balanced form and function. The silhouettes carried a deliberate exaggeration, yet remained practical and wearable. The brand stayed loyal to its iconic color palette: deep blacks, dark-wash denim, and subtle streaks of red, evoking a moody yet refined atmosphere. This visual language spoke of a world stripped of lushness but not of style.
âSince our collection is set in an imagined dystopian world with its bleaky atmosphere, we fashioned a world where people dress up in their winter garbâclothes as protection or as armor,â shared co-founder Ino Caluza. This concept was beautifully mirrored in the showâs scenographyâa stark post-apocalyptic landscape where vegetation has long vanished.
Despite the dark undertones, subtle details brought unexpected warmth. Brooches shaped like flowers and insects, crafted from discarded fabric cutoffs, added a layer of delicate artistry. âEach piece reinterprets the essence of flowers and insects, not as they are in nature, but as fragments of memory and imagination,â explained co-founder Will Mueco. This intricate contrast between strength and fragility became one of the showâs most defining elements.

The runway also featured standout appearances from familiar faces. Actor Gil Cuerva opened the show in a distressed denim ensemble cinched at the waist with a black leather belt, setting the tone for the night. Xian Lim followed in an all-black leather look, reinforcing the collectionâs sleek, urban feel. Both walked with quiet intensity, perfectly embodying Viktorâs dystopian vision.
The finale was a highlight in itselfâmodel Jasmine Maierhofer-Patrimonio emerged in a dramatic leather tube corset paired with a voluminous bubble skirt, earning audible gasps from the audience. Manila Fashion Week founder and celebrity stylist John Lozano described the collection as âvery Viktor,â noting, âI love how he used denim and leatherâmy favorite look is the gown at the end.â

The crowd included long-time Viktor loyalists, including influencer David Guison, who praised the collection for staying true to the brandâs roots while introducing subtle new twists. âEvery look really resonated with my personal style,â he shared, dressed head-to-toe in Viktor. âThe collection was very versatile, and you can easily pair it with anything.â
Closing the night, Viktor unveiled a surprise: its new underwear line for both men and women, a move that underscores the brandâs expanding range beyond its famed custom denim and outerwear. With Dystopian Blues, Viktor reaffirmed its place as a powerhouse in Manilaâs fashion sceneâbold, functional, and unapologetically stylish.
