On the eve of fashion’s most anticipated weekend, the King’s Trust Global Gala lit up New York City with elegance, purpose, and star-studded flair.

Held at Cipriani South Street, the annual event united music legends, supermodels, and design luminaries to celebrate the global impact of King Charles III’s philanthropic mission. Though the monarch was not present in person, a heartfelt video message reminded attendees of the charity’s enduring commitment to empowering youth worldwide.

Lionel Richie, longtime ambassador and gala co-chair, set the evening’s tone with his signature charm. “I just love making dreams come true,” said Richie, who has supported the Trust since the 1980s. Alongside British editor Edward Enninful, he welcomed guests to a night where fashion and philanthropy intertwined seamlessly.

The red carpet sparkled with familiar faces and show-stopping ensembles. Teyana Taylor, host of this year’s Met Gala red carpet, arrived in a bold, tailored look, declaring the night “dandy and daddies”—a playful nod to the suits and statement energy anticipated throughout the evening.

Nearby, model Iman glowed in a gold-and-black gown, exuding timeless glamour, while Helena Christensen floated in a pink floral creation by Georgina Chapman.

Charlotte Tilbury, surrounded by her “Angels,” added a touch of old Hollywood to the affair. “Being an entrepreneur and giving back is important to me,” said Tilbury, who continues her ambassadorship for the Trust’s Enterprise program. Meredith Duxbury, part of Tilbury’s table, embraced spring’s spirit in a cheerful Emilia Wickstead number.

Designers Daniel Lee, Guram Gvasalia, and LaQuan Smith brought modern edge to the room, exchanging style notes over cocktails and candlelight. “This hits home for me,” Smith reflected. “I used to sew on my grandmother’s machine. Now I’m here. It’s a dream.”

The night began with the Young People’s Chorus of New York City, whose soaring voices filled the hall with a sense of purpose. In his pre-recorded speech, King Charles spoke warmly of the Trust’s milestones: over one million young people supported across 20 countries. “From Detroit to Delhi, lives are being transformed,” he said.

Laughter followed as Enninful took the stage alone, explaining Richie had made a detour to the restroom. “They introduced me three times,” Richie joked upon returning. The camaraderie between the two underscored the gala’s message of unity. “Tonight is about family—our global family,” Richie said. “And giving young people hope.”

Dinner was a refined affair: sole alla Carlina, lemon meringue tart, and glasses of Champagne raised in celebration. Outside, the terrace buzzed with conversations and spring air.

The evening ended on a high note with a dazzling performance by Nile Rodgers, whose hits brought everyone to their feet. As “Good Times” echoed through the hall, one thing was clear—this night was more than fashion. It was a promise of hope, fueled by creativity, kindness, and timeless style.
