Jesus’ Genealogy: The People Who Pointed to the Messiah

Former NFL Star Mocked His Christian Teacher — Until One Moment with the Bible Changed Everything

Former NFL linebacker David Pollack once mocked his Christian teacher for being a Jesus believer. Now, he’s using his platform to lead young people toward the very faith he once dismissed.

Pollack, best known for his career with the Cincinnati Bengals and later as a football analyst, recently shared his compelling faith journey in connection with his new children’s book, The Won’t Quit Kid, published through Brave Books.

The book aims to teach kids how to overcome adversity and develop character — lessons Pollack himself learned firsthand through unexpected moments that reshaped his life.

As a high school senior, Pollack had no spiritual foundation. Church was unfamiliar territory, and Jesus was little more than a name. But that changed when he attended a youth “lockout,” a church-hosted overnight event filled with sports and activities. It was there that he first encountered the Gospel message — a moment that planted a seed.

Still, faith didn’t take root overnight. One of his teachers, a physics instructor who openly displayed his Christian faith through music and a sticker on his desk, became the object of Pollack’s jokes. But beneath the teasing was growing curiosity. That teacher’s quiet consistency spoke louder than any sermon.

Then came an unexpected turning point: an English class assignment requiring students to read and analyze a book. Pollack asked if he could study the Bible. At first, the teacher declined, saying she couldn’t evaluate something she didn’t understand. Pollack countered with a simple solution — his physics teacher could help confirm he’d actually read it. With that agreement in place, he began to explore the Bible’s pages.

What started as a class project quickly became something far deeper. “My life was forever rocked and changed,” Pollack shared. Reading about Jesus, the disciples, and the message of grace opened his eyes to something bigger than football or fame. Soon, he started attending church and eventually gave his life to Christ.

Pollack’s faith deepened in college, where a coach who lived out his beliefs served as a mentor. But life wasn’t without its challenges. A devastating neck injury ended his NFL career far sooner than expected. For many, that would be a moment of despair. But for Pollack, it became a confirmation of his faith.

“You either run towards God or away from Him,” he said, reflecting on that season. Rather than questioning God, Pollack trusted Him. “I thought I was on this path … then quickly it’s a detour,” he said. “But God provided something even better.”

Today, he credits those hard moments — the injury, the redirection, the uncertainty — as essential to his growth. “They made me who I am,” he said.

Pollack now encourages kids and families to embrace life’s difficulties as opportunities for growth, much like he did. His book, The Won’t Quit Kid, is his way of passing on that message of hope, faith, and perseverance — all sparked by one moment with the Bible.
