God’s Plan, My Story: How the Probiotic Diet Transformed My Digestive Health

For many, health struggles can feel like an endless cycle of unanswered questions, failed treatments, and discouragement. At just 19 years old, Jordan Rubin faced one of the most challenging seasons of his life when he was suddenly diagnosed with a severe form of colitis. Over the course of two years, he lost 80 pounds, his strength, and eventually his ability to walk. What seemed like the end of his ministry dreams became the beginning of a powerful testimony—one that revealed how God could use even illness to lead to restoration and hope.

Doctors tried countless approaches, but nothing worked. Jordan’s body continued to deteriorate, and despair set in. “I was ministering to people, living for God, and yet I was suffering a fate worse than death,” he recalled. But God was not done writing his story. Through a divinely orchestrated meeting with gastroenterologist Dr. Joseph Brasco, Jordan was introduced to a radically different approach: a diet rooted in probiotics, the “good” bacteria essential for digestive health.

This shift was more than medical—it was spiritual. Scripture reminds us in 1 Corinthians 6:19–20 that our bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, entrusted to us by God. By embracing a way of eating that honored the body’s natural design, Jordan discovered the profound connection between faith, stewardship, and healing. Within twelve weeks of starting the probiotic diet, his health dramatically improved. From being bound to a wheelchair, he gained weight, regained strength, and celebrated his 21st birthday working out on the beach.

The probiotic diet emphasizes restoring the body’s gut microbiome—the ecosystem of bacteria in the intestines that influences digestion, immunity, and even energy levels. By consuming foods rich in probiotics such as yogurt, kefir, sauerkraut, kimchi, pickles, and apple cider vinegar, Jordan fed his body what it needed to heal. These ancient foods, present even in biblical times, were part of God’s original design for nourishment. Think of Sarah serving curds or David delivering food to his brothers—fermented, life-giving foods that sustained generations.

Alongside probiotics, the diet also incorporates prebiotics, the fibers found in fruits, vegetables, beans, and whole grains that help good bacteria thrive. At the same time, harmful foods—especially processed items and excess sugar—are eliminated, reducing the growth of bad bacteria. The result is a balance that supports digestion, reduces inflammation, and restores vitality.
Jordan’s healing journey revealed more than just the science of probiotics—it testified to God’s wisdom in creation. Psalm 139:14 declares, “I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made.” When Jordan aligned his diet with the way God designed the body to function, healing followed. Today, he continues to share this message of hope worldwide, showing others that true restoration often comes from combining faith with practical steps of obedience.

For anyone struggling with chronic digestive issues, Jordan’s story is a reminder that God can use even the simplest of changes to bring transformation. The probiotic diet is not just about food—it is about trusting God’s plan, caring for the body He has given, and walking in renewed strength to fulfill His purpose.
