Asia’s Outstanding Star and Kapamilya star Kathryn Bernardo won the “Best Actress” award at the recently concluded 2024 Filipino Academy of Movie Arts and Sciences (FAMAS) awarding ceremony held on Sunday night, May 26, at the Manila Hotel.
This is Kathryn’s first FAMAS award, which she won for her role in the film “A Very Good Girl,” her first film that deviated from her typical romantic-drama genre, co-starring Golden Globe nominee Dolly De Leon, and produced by Star Cinema.
Kathryn bested other notable nominees such as Diamond Star Maricel Soriano for the film “In His Mother’s Eyes,” Charlie Dizon for “Third World Romance,” Marian Rivera for “Rewind,” Eugene Domingo for “Becky & Badette,” and Megastar Sharon Cuneta for “Family of Two.”
Although Star For All Seasons Vilma Santos-Recto was not among the nominees, her co-star Christopher De Leon from the film “When I Met You in Tokyo” received the “Circle of Excellence Award.”
Overall, “Mallari” swept the awards that night including the “Bess Picture” award.
Marian Rivera, however, did not go home empty-handed, as she was named “Bida ng Takilya” alongside her husband Dingdong Dantes, for the massive success of “Rewind” at the box office, which became the “highest-grossing Filipino movie of all time.” “Rewind” also won the “Best Sound” award.
Kathryn’s counterpart for the Best Actor category was fellow Kapamilya star Ultimate Heartthrob Piolo Pascual for “Mallari,” who tied with actor-politician Alfred Vargas for the film “Pieta.”
