Now in its 58th year, the Shell National Students Art Competition (NSAC) has stood as one of the country’s longest-running student art competition  for nurturing young Filipino artists. It continues to serve as a proving ground for students to express their passion and creativity, which leaves a lasting impact.

For many young artists, joining Shell NSAC marks the beginning of something bigger than themselves. It’s not just about competing, it’s about discovering purpose through art, and realizing that creativity can move communities and preserve Filipino culture.

Shell NSAC remains a platform empowering young Filipinos to turn passion into progress through the power of art

Shell Celebrating the Journey of the Filipino Artists

Through the years, Shell NSAC has continually expanded its scope, with each new theme igniting students’ passion and inspiring works that reflect the Filipino experience.

For Jason Mendoza, 2024’s first-place winner in the Sculpture category, Shell NSAC became a turning point in his artistic path. His winning piece, inspired by his town’s pottery community, was a tribute to cultural heritage and hope. “Creating something from scratch was intimidating,” he shared, recalling how he had no prior experience with sculpture. “But trusting my instincts helped me start, and everything else fell into place.”

Shell NSAC stands for using art as a bridge between generations and identities, giving young creators the courage to begin, no matter where they come from or what medium they use. Clarence Dingding, first-place winner in the Digital Fine Arts category, captured this in his work that blended tradition with modern expression. Like many participants, Clarence found inspiration not only in his craft but also in the community of artists who reminded him that creativity thrives when shared.

Shell’s commitment to nurturing artistic talents remains the priority of Shell NSAC’s purpose. For the Oil and Acrylic category winner, Luigi Galo, this support made all the difference. He shared that the competition helps elevate art appreciation across the country, creating a ripple effect that ignites creativity. As he says, “You just have to trust the process and keep going.”

Shell Continues to Support the Future of Filipino Art

Across the years, Shell NSAC has built a growing ecosystem of artists who inspire one another and shape the nation’s creative landscape. The program underscores Shell’s long-standing commitment to nation-building and youth empowerment through the arts.

The journeys of its participants prove that every creative step leads to growth. Together with Shell, their works echo one message for future generations of artists: believing in one’s craft is the first step to changing the world through art.

Watch out for this year’s Shell NSAC Awarding Ceremony and the announcement of the 58th Shell NSAC winners this December 2025 at the Ayala Museum, where the country’s next generation of artists will once again take the spotlight.
