The 2025 BET Awards became a moment of heartfelt reflection as Jamie Foxx accepted the Ultimate Icon Award and delivered a deeply moving speech that left the audience — and his daughters — in tears.
Held at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles, the night was filled with memorable performances and powerful moments, but none resonated quite like Foxx’s testimony of survival, faith, and gratitude.
\Dressed in a classic black suit, Foxx took the stage to a standing ovation. What followed wasn’t just an acceptance speech — it was a testimony. “Man, we used to take this thing for granted — that God is good,” he began, his voice already wavering with emotion.
Foxx publicly acknowledged his 2023 health scare for the first time at such a scale. He had suffered a brain bleed that led to a stroke, a terrifying moment that left him unconscious and hospitalized for months. At one point, he said, doctors believed he wouldn’t survive. “When I saw the ‘In Memoriam’ segment, I thought, that could’ve been me. But God gave me another chance.”
That second chance, Foxx said, would not be wasted. “I told Him, just give me one more crack at this, and I promise I’ll do right — right in front of y’all.” His words were more than emotional; they were filled with purpose, humility, and spiritual conviction.
Foxx credited his sister, Diedre Dixon, for being instrumental during his recovery. “She shut it down. She made sure her brother was taken care of,” he shared with deep appreciation. But the most emotional moments came as he addressed his daughters, Corinne and Anelise, directly from the stage.
Corinne, his eldest, was praised for stepping up when he couldn’t. “You’ve always taken a backseat, but when you needed to drive, you drove,” he said. Then came a special moment with 14-year-old Anelise. Foxx shared how she brought her guitar into his hospital room during a critical moment. “She said, ‘I know what my daddy needs.’ And when she played, my vitals dropped. That guitar — that was God.”
To the audience’s delight, Anelise later joined him on stage, guitar in hand, and embraced her father as the audience applauded.
The entire segment felt more like a revival than a celebrity award moment. With every tearful word, Foxx reminded everyone that fame is fleeting, but faith and family endure.
“God is good,” he repeated. “And all the time, God is good.”
His speech wasn’t just a thank you — it was a declaration. A reminder that life is fragile, and that grace, when given, must be honored. As the BET Awards celebrated artistic achievements and Black excellence, Jamie Foxx’s powerful moment stood out as a spiritual high point — a raw, unscripted expression of gratitude, resilience, and faith.
A true icon indeed.
