Manila Fashion Week Opens with a Stunning Celebration of Filipino Craftsmanship and Modern Design

The inaugural Manila Fashion Week officially opened last night, setting the tone for a landmark celebration of Filipino creativity and innovation in fashion. The first day featured two standout showcases â Andrea Tetangco at the Fashion Tent and Viktor at Samsung Hall â each bringing a distinct vision that reflected the diversity and artistry of the local fashion landscape.
Andrea Tetangco opened the week with an elegant and romantic collection that redefined feminine strength through structure, texture, and timeless silhouettes. Her show seamlessly blended craftsmanship and emotion, evoking sophistication while remaining rooted in classic Filipina grace.
At Samsung Hall, Viktor followed with a bold and atmospheric presentation that juxtaposed tailoring and street-inspired grit. The show unfolded in a moody, cinematic setting that captured Viktorâs evolving design language â one that balances avant-garde precision with raw, wearable energy.

We sat down with both Andrea Tetangco and Viktor to talk about their inspirations, creative process, and what it means to be part of the first-ever Manila Fashion Week.

What inspired the theme of this collection and why did you choose for it to be your showcased collection for the inaugural season of MNL Fashion Week? | Women have always been at the heart of my creative process. Every piece I design is a love letter to them. A way of inspiring confidence, grace, and strength through clothing. For this collection, I wanted to explore the idea of purity and femininity reimagined. Something dreamy and futuristic, yet timeless and grounded in reality. It felt right to debut this collection for the inaugural season of MNL Fashion Week. A moment that celebrates both new beginnings and the evolution of Filipino fashion. This collection represents that balance: ethereal yet modern, delicate yet powerful. | We were inspired by watching Blade Runner 2049 so from there we were thinking what would people wear in this dystopian world and of course people would still be fashionable. We play on denim, leather, vegan leather and wool as well as using our locally produced fabric. We wanted to showcase these collections since we are known to be in the industry for custom made jeans and jackets, this collection will showcase the range of what Viktor can offer to this growing market. |
What message or feeling do you hope audiences take away from your presentation tonight/today? | I hope the audience walks away feeling inspired. Reminded of the power of softness, and how femininity can be both delicate and strong. I want them to feel transported into a dreamlike world where beauty, confidence, and emotion coexist. More than just seeing clothes, I want them to feel something that quiet kind of empowerment that lingers even after the show ends. | With Manila Fashion Week giving us a platform to show what Filipino brands can offer either locally or globally, we hope that our viewers will support more local designers since we are very competitive when it comes to design and quality as well. |
This marks just the beginning of a historic four-day event, bringing together some of the countryâs most celebrated and forward-thinking designers.
