NBA Star Delivers Powerful Warning About Ignoring God: ‘Only What You Do for Christ Will Last’

Faith and basketball intersected in a historic moment this week as Orlando Magic star Jonathan Isaac joined the Museum of the Bible in Washington, D.C., to unveil a display that celebrates his unique approach to combining athletics with spiritual devotion. The event marked the debut of Isaac’s Judah 1 sneakers—the first-ever NBA shoes to feature a visible Bible verse, symbolizing the powerful role of faith in his life.
The sneakers, part of Isaac’s faith-based apparel brand Unitus, were presented by Matthias Walther, chief marketing officer of the Museum of the Bible, during the unveiling. The display, now part of the museum’s Impact of the Bible exhibit, highlights Isaac’s innovative effort to bring Scripture into sports and fashion, demonstrating how faith can leave a lasting impression beyond the court.

Speaking at the event, Isaac reflected on the personal journey that led him to this milestone. “I was sitting down thinking to myself … ‘What does all this mean? God, help me make sense of it all,’” he shared. “And the one thing I felt like He was saying to me was, there were moments in my life where I placed ultimate value on what was ultimately valueless, while not focused on what was truly valuable, which was my relationship with Christ.”
Isaac explained that prioritizing temporal achievements over spiritual purpose had once caused fear, uncertainty, and insecurity. Today, he said, living according to the Gospel has brought clarity and purpose. “When I look at this moment, to me it’s like this is my MVP—this is my hall of fame. Only what you do for Christ will last,” he added.

Walther emphasized Isaac’s impact, noting that the Museum of the Bible seeks to honor individuals who have leveraged their faith to create meaningful change. “The Bible is full of people who have impacted the world around them in lasting ways,” he said. “Believers around the world keep writing those stories. Jonathan Isaac, by faith, turned a challenging situation into an opportunity. His inspiring story and his Unitus shoes with 1 Samuel 2:30 stitched on are a natural fit for our Impact of the Bible gallery.”

Isaac’s journey has not been without controversy. In 2020, he made national headlines by choosing not to kneel during the National Anthem or wear Black Lives Matter apparel, actions rooted in his belief that Christ offered the solution to societal divisions. That period of scrutiny ultimately led him to write the book Why I Stand and further establish his Unitus brand, blending faith and fashion in ways that challenge the norms of professional athletics.
Today, Isaac’s Judah 1 sneakers serve not only as a bold fashion statement but as a reminder of the enduring power of faith. Museum visitors can see the sneakers on display, and Isaac’s story continues to inspire others to boldly live out their beliefs. For fans of both sports and spirituality, the intersection of faith, fashion, and purpose has never been clearer.
