April kicked off with a pink-hued surprise for fans of Legally Blonde, as Reese Witherspoon unveiled the very first look at the upcoming prequel series, Elle. With a single Instagram post, Witherspoon introduced Lexi Minetree as the young Elle Woods, the beloved character who first won hearts in 2001.

The image, featuring Minetree grinning in bed while taking a phone call, instantly set the tone for a story that’s poised to blend charm, confidence, and youthful flair.

“Harvard was hard. High school was harder,” Witherspoon captioned the post. And with that, the buzz began.

The series Elle, now in production under Prime Video and Witherspoon’s media company Hello Sunshine, dives into the formative years of Elle Woods—long before courtroom speeches and Harvard applications. This fresh chapter focuses on her high school journey, promising to explore the milestones and mishaps that shaped her into the spirited icon audiences adore.

Witherspoon, who serves as executive producer alongside Lauren Neustadter, Lauren Kisilevsky, Marc Platt, and series creator Laura Kittrell, couldn’t hide her excitement about the new project.

In a statement, she shared, “Fans will get to know how Elle Woods navigated her world as a teenager with her distinct personality and ingenuity, in ways that only our beloved Elle could do. What could be better than that?!”

Casting the right young Elle was no small feat. Witherspoon and her team launched an open call that drew hopefuls from around the globe. Then came the moment that sealed the deal—Minetree’s standout audition, where she recreated Elle’s iconic Harvard submission video.

In February, Witherspoon personally delivered the good news in a heartfelt video that quickly made rounds online. “You’re Elle Woods!” she beamed, surprising the actress and sparking an emotional reaction that fans found both touching and unforgettable.

Minetree, overjoyed and visibly moved in the announcement video, later took to Instagram to express her gratitude. “Thank you, thank you, THANK YOU to @reesewitherspoon for handing me down Elle Woods,” she wrote. “I already love her so so much. I promise she’s in good hands.”

Witherspoon’s involvement adds credibility and continuity to the series, bridging the gap between the original films and this new installment. Her personal connection to the character—and her decision to mentor the next Elle—has infused the project with authenticity and heart.

Elle isn’t just a nostalgic throwback. It’s a celebration of character, style, and youthful determination. While full plot details remain under wraps, the series is expected to mix lighthearted fun with moments of insight, capturing the spirit that made Legally Blonde a cultural touchstone.

With production officially underway, anticipation is building. One thing’s for certain—this is Elle Woods like we’ve never seen her before: younger, just as ambitious, and ready to take on high school in true Elle fashion.
