Tamar Braxton Reveals How She Literally Hears God Speak — You Won’t Believe What Changed Next

When Tamar Braxton opened up about her spiritual journey in a candid conversation with Angie Martinez, the discussion quickly turned from life lessons to a deeply personal revelation: she claims she can literally hear God’s voice. For Tamar, this wasn’t a vague impression or an inner nudge—it was as clear as someone speaking beside her. And according to her, it all began in the most unexpected place: the shower.

Tamar shared that a few years ago, she was going through a season of seeking and self-reflection. One day, while praying in the shower—something she often did—she suddenly felt a powerful presence. “It was like He was right there,” she said, describing an unmistakable energy that filled the space. Then, she heard it—God’s voice. Not metaphorically, not figuratively, but audibly, speaking to her in a way she described as “Tay Marian,” her own personal language with Him.

“It’s like you’re talking to me right now,” she explained. “Clear, direct, and specific. Sometimes it’s as simple as, ‘Tay, don’t do that,’ or ‘Stop.’” For her, this experience shifted her entire understanding of faith. While she had grown up around church and religious teaching, she admitted that she never truly knew God for herself until that moment.

Interestingly, Tamar doesn’t attribute her spiritual growth to traditional church attendance. Instead, she focuses on her relationship with God, pairing her faith with regular therapy. “For me, therapy and the Holy Ghost go hand in hand,” she said. “One doesn’t work without the other.” Though she doesn’t regularly attend church services, she maintains that her connection with God is strong and personal.

Still, her comments sparked conversation. Some believe Tamar’s story is a powerful example of God meeting people where they are, while others point to the importance of fellowship and biblical teaching within the church community, as seen in Acts 2:42—“They devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and to fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer.”

Tamar’s experience also stands in contrast to recent headlines involving her sister, Toni Braxton, who expressed skepticism about the Bible. In a livestream moment, Toni suggested that other books could serve in spiritual battles, a statement that raised eyebrows among Christian audiences. For Tamar, however, the Bible remains central. As she told her sister during that exchange, “It’s important to know the Word—how else are we going to battle all these demons and witchcraft?”

Whether you interpret Tamar’s shower encounter as divine revelation or deeply personal spiritual awakening, there’s no denying the impact it’s had on her life. She says she now lives with greater intentionality, protecting her mental health, showing up authentically, and prioritizing her role as a mother.

For those who have never experienced what she describes, Tamar encourages openness to hearing from God in unexpected ways. “He speaks to all of us differently,” she said. “You just have to learn your language with Him.”
