Tokyo Fashion Week 2025 showcased a dazzling array of collections that captured the essence of Japan’s eclectic fashion scene, pushing boundaries and reimagining streetwear, minimalism, and high-functionality designs.

1. KEISUKEYOSHIDA

KEISUKEYOSHIDA presented a hauntingly surreal show at ROSA Kaikan, a nostalgic entertainment complex in Ikebukuro. Models paraded in an eerie, zombie-like trance, donning oversized trench coats, hooded robes, and raincoats, their expressions drained and almost lifeless.

The runway’s cold, white noise contrasted sharply with the arcade’s vibrant atmosphere, providing a commentary on nostalgia and the weight of modern life. This collection, marked by ’80s-inspired looks, brought together futuristic designs with an aura of melancholic glamour.

2. Chika Kisada

Chika Kisada’s FW25 collection transported the audience into a wild, rave-like frenzy, blending the chaotic energy of a nightclub with high fashion. Held in an industrial warehouse, the show featured models storming the runway in dramatic, deconstructed tulle dresses, punk-inspired pieces, and tattered lace jumpsuits.

The punk aesthetic was underscored by the appearance of Barbie dolls, adding a surreal, almost rebellious touch. The models’ raw, untamed energy gave the show an intensity that captured the feeling of a hedonistic night out.

3. HYKE

HYKE, known for its minimalist, vintage-inspired designs, brought a refined yet outdoorsy aesthetic to Tokyo Fashion Week. Presenting at the Ariake Arena, a venue previously used for the Tokyo Olympics, HYKE’s FW25 collection blended earthy tones with functional outdoor wear, such as oversized plaid trenches and fluffy cropped vests.

The collection was enhanced by HYKE’s collaboration with The North Face, showcasing weather-ready designs that maintained an effortlessly cool, sporty vibe. The collaboration focused on practicality, with knit caps, scarves, and eyewear adding the perfect finishing touch to the understated yet elegant collection.

4. Pillings

Pillings, a brand known for pushing the boundaries of knitwear, also made waves this season. Designer Ryota Murakami featured designs with intricate patterns and unexpected shapes, like a maxi dress that resembled an artfully tangled pile of socks. Murakami’s boundary-pushing approach to knitwear made it one of the most exciting collections of the week. His innovative use of fabric often turned pieces inside out or constrained body movement.

5. Tokyo Streetwear: Bathing Ape

Tokyo’s dominance in streetwear was also unmistakable. Brands like A Bathing Ape once again ruled the scene, with bold graphics, oversized logos, and street-savvy accessories like chunky sneakers. The collection embraced maximalism, a stark contrast to the minimalist trends seen elsewhere, underlining Tokyo’s position as a hub for bold, statement-making fashion.

Tokyo Fashion Week 2025 was a celebration of creativity, pushing the limits of what fashion can express while maintaining a distinctly Japanese edge. Whether through the nostalgic, eerie vibe of KEISUKEYOSHIDA, the punk energy of Chika Kisada, the minimalist outdoor chic of HYKE, or the avant-garde knitwear from Pillings, this year’s showcase redefined the future of fashion.
