As The Chosen enters its most emotional and visually demanding season yet, the cast and crew are reaching out to fans for support — not with promotion, but with prayer.

Filming is currently underway in Italy for Season 6 of the globally acclaimed series, and the focus is on Christ’s crucifixion — arguably the most sacred and solemn scenes of the entire seven-season journey. Director Dallas Jenkins calls it “the hardest thing” he’s ever done, citing physical, emotional, and spiritual challenges that have tested every fiber of the production. “We’re at the edge,” Jenkins shared through a video from the set. “But I think God is just testing us so we rely more on Him.”

Past seasons were filmed in the U.S., but for this pivotal moment, the production traveled overseas to find a landscape that resembles first-century Israel — rugged hills, arid plains, and haunting silence that visually match the Gospels’ portrayal. “We didn’t want to rely on green screens or CGI,” Jenkins emphasized. “This needed to feel real.”

Jonathan Roumie, who portrays Jesus, described the intensity as both an artistic and spiritual burden. “There is yet more suffering to endure,” he said in a heartfelt post. “Not just as my character, but through my own offering — accepting every ounce of pain and discomfort that comes with making Christ’s suffering real to everyone who will watch.”

Filming the crucifixion scenes — many of which are scheduled at night — has stirred not only technical obstacles but emotional breakthroughs among the crew. Roumie shared that he and fellow cast members have been brought to tears multiple times. “We’ve lifted each other up through it all,” he wrote. “What we are creating shall transcend all of us.”

The emotional weight has brought spiritual warfare as well. Roumie humbly asked for continued prayers, noting, “We need them now more than ever. It’s been a time of mental, physical, and spiritual challenge.”

Season 6, expected to release in late 2026, sets the stage for the final episodes of The Chosen, a project that has grown to reach 250 million viewers across the globe. The crucifixion will be shown in the finale of Season 6, with Season 7 beginning with The Resurrection, projected for release in 2028.

For Jenkins, every moment of Jesus’ life — not just His death and resurrection — is holy. “Every verse in Scripture is sacred,” he said. “We’re trying to capture a perfect God and a perfect story through imperfect people.”

While fans anticipate the next season, The Chosen universe continues to grow. Jenkins’ studio has announced upcoming projects, including The Chosen Adventures for kids and a faith–based reality show with Bear Grylls. More biblical stories are also in development, pointing to a future where The Chosen continues to inspire — even long after its final scene.
