After losing his $14.5 million Malibu mansion in the devastating Palisades fire, Mel Gibson is finding a new sense of freedom and purpose. The actor and director revealed that despite the initial sadness of losing his home, he views the experience as a “blessing” and a form of spiritual purification.

In an interview on the “Arroyo Grande with Raymond Arroyo” podcast, Gibson described how the loss of material possessions has opened him up to pursue new ventures, particularly the long-awaited sequel to The Passion of the Christ, titled The Resurrection of the Christ.

Gibson, 69, expressed that the fire has served as a form of “stripping down” and preparation for something greater. “It was an odd mixture of sadness and a kind of weird realization,” he reflected, noting that while he would miss certain personal items, he feels a sense of being “prepared for something else.”

With a deep faith guiding him, Gibson sees this as a time for renewal, a sentiment that aligns with his belief that material possessions are fleeting and that God provides for His people, citing the passage from Matthew 6:26-27 about God’s care for even the birds of the air..

The timing of this personal loss coincides with the perfect opportunity to begin production on The Resurrection of the Christ, a sequel he has been contemplating for 20 years. Gibson noted that the film’s production has taken a backseat in the past, with many wondering if it was too late for such a project. However, with the challenges of the past two decades now behind him, he feels free from distractions.

Gibson’s outlook on life has been shaped by his upbringing and faith, and he believes that this new chapter in his life is both a purification and an opportunity to embrace his calling. The new film, which will explore the resurrection of Jesus Christ, is not just a sequel to The Passion of the Christ but a necessary reminder of the core values that define civilization, according to Gibson.

In addition to his filmmaking plans, Gibson recently received surprising news from President-elect Donald Trump, who named him one of Hollywood’s “Special Ambassadors.” Along with actors Sylvester Stallone and Jon Voight, Gibson will play a role in revitalizing Hollywood’s global presence, an opportunity he is willing to embrace, despite the unexpected nature of the announcement.

For Gibson, the journey ahead is about trusting in divine timing and moving forward with faith and purpose. As he prepares for The Resurrection of the Christ, he is clear that the fire, loss, and challenges have all led him to this moment of spiritual and professional rebirth, where he is fully prepared to do what he believes he was meant to do.
